The building’s curved roofs create a sense of movement and flow, inviting visitors to explore and engage with the space. Intense use of greenery and water within the site was essential to creating a natural and inviting atmosphere that dapples and reflects light throughout the precinct.

Nexus is a cultural precinct dedicated to educating the public on Pre-Colonial Australia’s fauna, flora, and culture. By utilizing VR experiences and AR expositions, Nexus creates an immersive and engaging learning experience for all visitors.

Spanning across three levels, each floor is devoted to one of the three categories. The ground floor plate aims to create a distinct and separate space from the nearby Casino development, while simultaneously connecting the botanic gardens to the CBD and river.

 

Inspired by the three mobs in the area - the Wake Wake, Turrbal, and Yuggera People - Nexus’s form takes on a unique undulating shape that mimics organic forms from the surrounding vegetation. The building’s curved roofs create a sense of movement and flow, inviting visitors to explore and engage with the space. Intense use of greenery and water within the site was essential to creating a natural and inviting atmosphere that dapples and reflects light throughout the precinct.

 

Overall, Nexus is a groundbreaking cultural precinct that fosters a deeper understanding and appreciation of Pre-Colonial Australia. Its innovative use of technology and unique architectural design create a space that is both educational and engaging for all who visit.
